  • massive debt was leftover from the war with France. Parliament passed laws such as theStamp Act, which for the first time taxed a wide range of selling in the colonies.They felt that they’d spent a lot of blood and treasure to protect the colonists from the Indians, and so they should pay their share.
  • The Boston Tea Party 1773
  • Americans struck back by organizing a boycott the British goods. They were subject to taxation and began harassing the British commissioners. In an effort to quell the resistance, the British sent troops to Boston, which only deepened the ill-feeling.
  • The Coercive Acts 1774
  • One late afternoonwhen a disagreement between an apprentice wigmaker and a British soldier, this had led to a crowd of 200 colonists surrounding seven British troops. The Americans began taunting the British and throwing things at them, the soldiers had lost their cool andbegan firing into the crowd.
  • Lexington and Concord 1775
  • they left in place the tax on tea, and in 1773 they made a new law, theTea Act, to bring up the financially struggling British East India Company. The act gave the companies extended favorable treatment under tax regulations.The Americans wanted to be able to trade with any country they wanted.

  • TheBritish General Thomas Gage planned to capture colonial radical leaders. American spies got a hold of the information and spread the word and got prepared to fight the British. British troops were found by 77 American militiamen, they began to shoot each other. Only 7 American died and 73 British soldiers were confirmed dead, 174 wounded and 26 missing in action. It proved to the British that the colonists were fearsome who should be taken seriously. It was the start of America’s war of Independence.
