- I have an idea!!!
- Our country needs military maps! But this silk that China is buying is so expensive!!
- We need old rags, fishing nets, hemp waste, and mulberry fibers. This is going to work.
- If you say so!
- We need to break these materials and pound them together to make paper.
- China would make paper out of expensive silk that was rarely imported, so they decided they needed to make paper out of cheaper and more convenient materials. Military maps were one thing that China needed but they did not have the paper for.
- We did it! We made paper to write on, read, and make maps with!
- The materials were gathered. The main ingredient was the bark from a mulberry tree. These were found and brought back to make paper.
- Once the materials needed were all together, they were soaked and pressed into plant fibers which were dried in sheets on wooden frames or screens
- They successfully made paper for letters, books, money, and more
- Paper allows us to have money, books, letters, and helped the spread of literature! We love paper!
