- Chorus: We shall summon the gods to rescue Thebes from this dreaded plague. They have never forsaken us.
- A huge plague is wiping out the people of Thebes. We have to put an end to this.
- That seems a fairly simple task.
- Apollo has commanded us to find the people responsible for the murder of Laius to end the plague.
- Regardless of whether the killer be a child or an elderly, I will see to it that I curse him.
- I command thee to hunt the murderers of Laius. If found, you are to bring them to me.
- Chorus: Why do thee not call on the prophet Tiresias for help? He is almighty.
- Tiresias, I command thee to answer my question: Who murdered Laius?
- I know who is the murderer, but I refuse to inform thee.
- Creon and thee are betraying me! How dare thee!
- Chorus: Oedipus, thou needs to relax. Thou needs more proof before accusing
