- The use of Banquo is to express Macbeth's most significant character traits. Banquo, in a lot of ways, is the complete opposite of Macbeth. He is always loyal to the king, and will never do something that goes against his morals. This therefore, highlights Macbeth's actions and emotions. For instance, it emphasizes the fact that Macbeth killed King Duncan
