- Toussaint was born in Saint Dominique. He learned of Africa by his father. He also was very well educated by getting his hands on any book he found

- The sugar plantations of Saint Dominique could not be the same after the French revolution. Enlightenment thinkers like Jean-Jacques Rousseau thought of "rights of Man" french men, including blacks instead of ending slavery.
- news of betrayal triggered mas slaves and Toussaint became a leader of a slave rebellion. he successfully fought the french and invaded Spanish and british.
- BETRAYAL!!!
- they voted to end slavery in french colonies including now called Haiti
- in france jacobins lost power. french wanted to keep going and they took Napoleon, and he reinstating slavery, which sent Haiti into war again.
- SLAVERY AGAIN!!!!
- napoleon and toussaint agreed to terms of peace. then french invited Toussaint to a meeting then betrayed him and arrested him putting him in a ship to France (napoleon orders) and then later Toussaint died
