  • WELCOME TO THE POLITICS PROJECT ON DICTATORSHIP!
  • PRESENTED BY JOSSELYN DeSANTIS!(on StoryboardThat)
  • Dictatorship was first created by the Roman Senate in 510 B.C. because they wanted to have one person ruling for certain occasions.
  • People in Rome were known as citizens by birth if both parents were Roman citizens, but citizenship could be acquired later from generals and emperors.
  • The dictator was now in control of everyone but had some rules to follow at first.
  • Dictators were not voted in, but appointed off and on when necessary until 202 B.C.
  • -Countries Using Dictatorship-Cambodia - Hun SenChina - Xi Jinping
  • I will take over!ARMY, CHARGE!
  • YAHHHHH!
  • The dictator had the most control because they had control over all other politicians.
  • Let's begin!
  • Some dictators do allow elections, like in Saudi Arabia, elections were allowed but women couldn't vote, mainly because they didn't have the right photo identification, or there weren't enough people to register them.
  • Most dictators benefited themselves because they had control over everybody, but some dictators, like Titus Larcius, worked to improve the lives of plebians.
  • Lucius Cornelius Sulla became dictator in 82 B.C. with no restrictions of previous dictators. He ruled for two years and killed many Roman citizens. He was soon taken over by Julius Ceasar.
  • Throughout these boxes you will learn different facts about dictatorship.
  • Rome's beliefs guided their political decisions because they worshipped many Gods and had temples to worship them. Emperors were sometimes made gods to help make people more loyal to them. Priests were elected by the government and Pontiffs laid down rules for worship. Whatever the Romans did, no matter if it was political or not, they always tried to please the gods.
  • The pros of having a dictator are they can make more effective solutions for emergencies since no one else is needed to approve decisions. Dictators usually last for long periods of time and have experience.
  • The cons of having a dictator are rights of people are restricted, laws can be changed at any time, and many people live fearful knowing that they can be caught in a power struggle and are risking their lives by staying in the country.
  • Dictatorship is usually taken by force as shown here.
