- Polar Bears living happily in South Antarctica. These bears are all white with two layers of fur and webbed paws. They eat fish and sea lions. They know how to swim, but not far distances. They live on the mainland with lots of land covered with snow and ice. There are other animals living there too.
- Cold Spell
- Heat Wave over a few days caused part of the iceberg to drift away with a family of polar bears. This causes these bears to become isolated from the mainland polar bears.
- Too Different
- Island environment is different than the mainland. This causes the bears to change through the years. They are tan with two layers of fur and a water bearer insulation layer and webbed paws. They only have fish to eat and had to learn to swim farther and dive deeper.
- 2 Species of Polar Bears
- There was a cold spell that caused the water between the iceberg and mainland to freeze over. The polar bears were now able to cross back together.
- The water has caused the split between the polar bears and they do not want to mate across species. These two different sets of bears have different mutations.
- The tan polar bears have become a new species.
