The Philippine Revolution, also called the Tagalog war by the Spanish, was a revolution fought between the people of the Philippines and the Kingdom of Spain.
It began in 1896 after the Spanish authorities discovered a secret anti-colonial organization called the Katipunan led by Andres Bonifacio.
This organization began to influence a lot of the Philippines.At a mass gathering in Caloocan the leaders the leaders organized themselves into a revolutionary government called “Haring Bayang Katagalugan”, and openly declared a nationwide armed revolution.
Alfred Bonifacio called for an attack on the Philippines' capital, Manila. The attack failed but surrounding provinces began to revolt. Rebels in Cavite led by Mariano Alvarez and Emilio Aguinaldo won major early victories.
Bonifacio died in 1897 due to a power struggles among the revolutionaries. The command shifted to Aguinaldo who led the newly formed revolutionary government.
