- Hi I am Democritus, I am a Greek philosopher who was the first person to use the term atom. In fact I developed the concept of the atom. I believed that everything in the universe was made up of atoms, which were microscopic and indestructible. I also thought that if you divide something over and over again eventually you will not be able to divide it anymore.

- Hello my name is John Dalton, I am an English chemist, physicist and meteorologist. Although the idea of atoms was forgotten for 2,000 years it has been rediscovered by me. I believe that all matter consists of tiny particles called atoms. Also that elements are characterized by the weight of their atoms, and that when elements react, it’s because their atoms have combined to form new compounds.

- Hi I go by Michael Faraday, I am an English scientist. I discovered the idea that atoms have an electrical component. I did this by placing two opposite electrodes in a solution of matter containing a dissolved compound.

- Hello I am JJ Thompson, I am an English physicist. I helped revolutionize the knowledge of atomic structure with my discovery of the electron, which is the first subatomic particle to be discovered. He did this with an experiment using a cathode ray tube.

- Hi I am Ernest Rutherford I was born in New Zealand but I am a British physicist. I didn’t think JJ’s atom model was very correct, so I set up an experiment that I’m most known for, the Gold foil experiment. How it worked was me firing positively charged particles at a gold foil, then he measured the deflection as the particles came out the other side. Most of the particles did not deflect at all. Every now and then a particle would deflect all the way back. I said that in the foil there must be a positive centre. I called it the Nucleus.

- Hello my name is James Chadwick, I am a British physicist. I won the 1935 Nobel Prize in Physics for discovering the Neutron. It is a particle with no electric charge. I believe neutrons and protons make up the atom's nucleus.
