- One major Theme of the Monsters are due on maple street by Rod sterling that mankind is its worst own enemy. For example. When the neighbors accuse Les Goodman and his family of being aliens. One way this supports the theme is accusing people leads to trouble they destroy his house, and they eventually turn on each other trusting no one. A second example is when Charlie shoots Pete Van horn thinking he was an alien. Charlie was scared and didn't know what was coming killing Pete in the process making everyone turn on him and making him his worst enemy for killing Pete. This supports the theme. My third example is when Charlie accuses Tom of being the alien. Charlie makes everyone afraid/distracted of the real problem going on which is the power also he to find an escape goat. This is my 3 reason this supports the theme. MY last reason is when the Aliens say that the humans are their own enemy's even the aliens say it. This is why Man kind is its own enemy.
