School-children: That is so sad sir! I can't believe people are so disrespectful to the environment. But what can we do, its not our fault. We don't live anywhere near the ocean!
UK litter costs UK tax-payers £1 Billion a year to clear up!
One million sea-bird and 100,000 sea-mammals die each year because of plastics litter!
The next day...
Boy: Hey Dad, the sweet wrapper didn't make it to the bin.Dad: Lol, you worry to much son. The bin men will deal with it.
The following week...
Girl: Shouldn't we clear away our rubbish before we leave?Boy: Lol, you're so funny! Why worry so much, that's the bin mans job!!
Why do they leave behind litter and waste which destroys the planet and causes disease and pollution?
Geography Class teaching school-children about pollution and its effect on local communities and world-wide wildlife. The children care but feel like it is too big a problem for them to help to solve.
Stop right there!
A boy and his dad are walking down the street. The dad drops a sweet wrapper, despite being right next to the bin. The dad laughs it off. He doesn't see a problem with the tiny pieces of litter.
The same boy is out with a friend. She thinks it is important to clear away the takeaway rubbish from the table and put it in the bin. The boy laughs and following the lesson he learnt from his dad, thinks it is the bin-men's job to clear up after him.
Litter is a problem for all of us to solve and take responsibility for!
All of this time, Litterman has been looking on from his own world. Confused and angry, he doesn't understand why people seem to care are so willing to destroy the environment they live in.
Litterman swoops in from the sky and demands the boy and girl to stay where they are. "Let me show you the effects your littering is having on the world" he says.
Litterman flies the boy around the world, showing him the destruction and carnage caused by litter when it builds up. The boy is devastated and feels embarrassed by his previous actions. He vows not to litter again and be an ambassador for anti-littering in the future!
The boy presents to his class what his has learnt about the problems that dropping a single sweet wrapper or leaving your food waste for someone else to clear up can cause.
Together, with the help of Litterman, the whole community responds and challenges everyone to work together to fight the problem of litter.
