  • "I believe it must be the policy of the United States to support free peoples who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressures."
  • During the Yalta Conference the "Big Three" met to try and figure out how they were going to divide up Germany . Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin all had their own agendas on what they felt was best for their country to do in order to recover from World War II.
  • The Space Race-20th July 1969
  • Stalin put up the "Iron Curtain" or ideological barrier to divide East Germany from West Germany. Stalin did not want the influence of the West to disturb his communism beliefs. He wanted control over his people and did not want them to support the United States ways.
  • The Cuban Missile Crisis-October 14th 1962
  • On March 12th, 1947 President Harry Truman proposed the Truman Doctrine to Congress. This doctrine would provide resources in the form of economic and military aid to help those countries that were being threatened by communism from the Soviet Union.
  • The Berlin Wall-November 9th 1989
  • "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall"
  • Both the Soviets and the United States wanted to be the first at Orbiting the Earth and putting a man on the moon. The Soviets did Orbit the Earth first, but the United States put the first man on the moon and are considered to have won the space race.
  • During the Cuban Missile Crisis, The Soviets put missiles in Cuba that were aimed at the United States and the U.S. thought Cuba was going to attack them. We had spy planes go over Cuba and take pictures that showed there were missiles there. The U.S. and Soviets came to a compromise and the U.S. agreed not to invade Cuba and then the Soviets removed their missiles.
  • The tearing down of the Berlin Wall symbolized the ending of the Cold War between the United States and the Soviets. When the wall finally came down, both West Germany and East Germany were once united into one country.
