  • THE EXODUS
  • THE SINAI CONVENT
  • Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, but the pharaoh's soldiers and chariots pursued them. God parted the waters of the sea and led them across on dry land, then made the waters close back over the Egyptian charioteers when they tried to cross and catch them they died.
  • THE PASTOVER FEAST
  • In this meal Jews remember how the Israelites ate a meal of lamb, sacrificed to God and unleavened bread before they fled Egypt in great haste, to be freed and saved by their God.
  • IN THE DESERT
  • I would rather be enslaved in Egypt than die in the desert.
  • After escaping from Egypt, the Israelites grumbled at Moses about their surroundings and lack of food in the desert. God took care of them by sending them manna (a bread-like substance that they found on the ground) and quail (small birds) to eat.
  • If you obey my voice and keep covenant, you shall be my treasured possession out of ;the peoples. Indeed, the whole earth is mine, but ye shall be for me a priestly kingdom and a holy nation. These are the words that you shall speak to the Isratites.
  • After many days, the Israelites encamped at the base of Mount Sinai, waiting for direction from Moses. Yaweh again encountered Moses on the mountaintop and presented him with the Law. The cornestone of the Law given to Moses, or the Mosaic Law, is now call the Ten Commandments.
  • A LAW THAT FREES
  • The Mosaic Law (or Law of Moses) did not carry restrictive or negative meaning for the Israelites. The Covenant with its Law was some what like a loving marriage. For Christians as well, the Ten Commandments of the Law are the foundation of morality.
  • The code that made the Jews is "a light of nations
  • The Israelites soon lost sight of how gracious God had been to them. They built an idol of metal a golden calf made of melted-down jewelry--and offered it to a false god. Moses was furious with the people when he found out but he and God did not abondon them.
