  • The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street Theme: Violence Does Not Solve Problems.
  • One major theme of "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street" by Rod Sterling is that Violence Does Not Solve Problems and here is why. One example that supports the theme is when Charlie shot Pete Van Horn this shows that Charlie shot Pete Van Horn because everyone thought it was an alien and everyone was scared to do anything, so since Charlie chose violence and shot the "Alien" Which was Pete it created another problem. Another example is when Charlie gets hurt this shows that Charlie gets hit in the cheek because he shot Pete and everyone got mad at him, since they chose violence Charlie blamed someone else because he got hurt and he was scared. One last reason is the aliens made everything worse this shows that the aliens are causing chaos because they are starting cars and turning on lights, so everyone turns on each other and it causes chaos, they chose violence instead of solving the problem figuring out what was going on. So, the theme of the story is Violence Does Not Solve Problems Example 1: Charlie shot Pete, Example 2: Charlie gets hurt, Example 3: The Aliens made everything worse, and that is why Violence Does Not Solve Problems Is the theme of Rod Sterling's "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street.
