  • Young Love
  • O how I love thee Hamlet
  • Do What is Best for the Family and Yourself
  • "Carve for himself, for on his choice depends the safety and the health of this whole state."
  • "I shall the effect of this good lesson keep as watchmen to my heart."
  • Intuition and Insults
  • "Affection, puh! You speak like a green girl."
  • "He hath, my lord, of late made many tenders of his affection to me."
  • It is not explicitly said yet but we know that Hamlet and Ophelia are each others love interests in this story. The two of them as of now are dating and in love.
  • Insanity or Infatuation?
  • "My lord, as I was sewing in my closet, lord Hamlet with his doublet unbraced, no hat upon his head, his stockings fouled, ungartered, and down-gyved to his ankle, pale as his shirt, his knees knocking each other, and with a look so piteous in purport as if he had been loosed out of hell to speak of horrors-he comes before me."
  • Laertes and Ophelia exchange conversation in Polonius' chambers. He explains to her that for the family's reputation she should not sleep with him. He also explains how even though he may love her she will never be able to marry him because he will marry for political alliances.
  • Pitiful Polonius
  • I have the answer to Hamlets madness! He is mad for the love of Ophelia and devastated by her rejection and have a plan to prove it.
  • O Polonius please tell us your plan
  • Ophelia explains that Hamlet is in love with her too and has shown his affection to her. Polonius says he is after on thing and that she is foolish for mistaking his actions as him showing his love for her. he beats down on her and belittles her calling her stupid in a way. Ophelia probably feels hurt and like she is being a bad disobedient daughter.
  • The End of the Road
  • Ophelia, I love you! Please don't do this! Your father is evil and working with Claudius to cover-up my fathers murder!
  • Ophelia! Listen to me, I am your father! Spy on Hamlet!
  • In Act 2 Scene 1 Hamlet devises the plan to act crazy in order to get people to confess things to him. He starts with Ophelia and shows up to her room looking insane. She tells Polonius and he uses this as evidence for the reason behind Hamlets madness saying he has gone crazy over his love for Ophelia and her rejection and plans on telling the king.
  • "Mad for thy love?"
  • Polonius is sure that Hamlet is mad for Ophelia. He says he will basically lease his own daughter to Hamlet in order to gain secrets from their relationship. When Ophelia is made a pawn she will be very confused and maybe even devastated.
  • "At such a time I'll loose my daughter to him"
  • Ophelia is driven to insanity after she is torn between her love and her obedience and loyalty to her father. She will lose her mind and end up choosing or taking her own life.
  • I cannot do this anymore! I do not know who to trust or choose!
