- In the world of farming today, you often see fields like this: Rows and rows of one type of crop, harmful farming practices, and overall not a very fruitful land.
- But what if it could look like this instead? Animals and plants cohabitating. Working together to create a natural rhythm of the environment.
- This is method of farming is called permaculture: the philosophy of working with the natural order instead of against it
- Permaculture works because it's a cycle. By mimicking the natural balance you improve soil quality, produce bigger yields and eliminate harmful chemicals.
- This cycling process means your land and your production get better year after year.
- Lets see an example of this: Say you're crop becomes infested with snails. What do you do? The traditional farming methods would say spray pesticides to kill off the snails.
- Instead, using permaculture practices you can observe the natural relationship between organisms and see that ducks are great scavengers. Opening the ducks into the field not only gets rid of your snail problem while keeping the plants intact, but also provides extra nutrients for the ducks without any cost to you.
