- On a normal day of visiting the grocery store, a teen, who I believe studies at the same school as me, just came right out of the door. We greeted each other with a smile and a nod.
- Yes, hi! Erin here. Because we often nod and grin at one another everytime we meet one another, we just just recently knew each other's names. Haha
- Another day and we bumped against each other again. This time he waved at me and gestured for me to go first.
- Hey, gosh, it's you again!
- Yes, it's me once more. Why do we keep running into one other? Haha
- Hey, it's you once more! Funny how we have already run into each other a few times but I still don't know your name. I'm Carl, and I see from your uniform that we attend the same institution.
- This experience, then, is a good illustration of Dance's helical model of communication since it shows how Carl and I gradually developed our connection. We began by simply smiling and nodding, then exchanged waves and brief welcomes before settling in and becoming the best of friends.
- Since that time, we have become close and attended school together. We also discovered that we reside in the same area. The way the world introduces us to the people with whom we will have a close relationship is quite peculiar.
