- The British leader Burgoyne had made a very detailed plan for the war to win against the Americans. The troops were confident in beating the Americans.
- Burgoyne and his army had arrived and noticed they were surrounded by Americans. Gen. Gates had led the Americans and his army. The British had realized their plan was not going to succeed.
- The British had surrendered and so they decided to retreat. The British had felt offended at what had occurred to them because of how much they had prepared and the fact that they had thought they were going to win
