- In a continent where everyone is ruled by a government called the Faculty, there is a city called Opena, where criminals, traitors, and homeless people are taken and forced to fight in an arena, a 15-year-old girl named Aria is framed and is taken away to fight in the arena.
- In the arena, Aria is imprisoned and is given a schedule for her fights and finds out that she is part of a special event bracket, where the strongest contestants fight each other.
- After Aria's first fight, she finds the 16-year-old boy named William, or Will, who kidnapped her. He says that he was once a prisoner, but once the Faculty saw how strong he was, he was forced to be the arena's champion, and to do thier dirty work, like go and kidnap people. He also says that Aria needs to make her fights more entertaining if she doesn't want to be killed.
- After the first to last fight, the Arena Officers try to kill Aria, and Will helps her hide. He says that they found out who she is. Aria says she doesn't understand what he's talking about, so he says never mind and to just get out of the arena and hide. Then he gives her an address to go to.
- As Aria is trying to escape, she runs into a man who claims to be trying to rescue and break her out of the arena because she is part of a rebellion trying to overthrow the Faculty. She doesn't believe him until he says that the rebellion framed her so she could get in the arena and gather inside information. Then Aria believes him but gets mad and punches him in the face. She leaves him and escapes on her own.
