  • Brutus' Speech - Ethos
  • If among this assembly there is any dear friend of Caesar's, I say to him that my lve for Caesar i s no less than his own. If that friend then demands why I rose up against Caesar, this is my answer: it is not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome morel
  • Brutus's Speech - Pathos
  • With this final word I leave you-just as I killed my best friend for the good of Rome, I have the same dagger myself, when my country needs my death.
  • Antony's Speech - Logos
  • He brought many captives home to ROme whose ransoms enriched us all. When the poor would cry, Caesar would weep. You all saw that during the feast of lUpercal I presented him with a kingly crown three times, which he refused three times.
  • In Brutus' speech he explains how he loved Caesar just as much as anyone else and that he loves Rome. He says these things to gain the trust of his audience. The audience believes him because if someone so close and dear to Caesar stabbed him in the back, surely he must have a good reason.
  • Brutus' Speech - Logos
  • Who here is so lowly that he would willingly be a slave? IF any, let him speak for I've offended him. Who here is so barbaric he doesn't want to be a Roman? If there is any, let him speak for I've offended him. WHo here is so vile that he doesn't love his country?
  • In this part of Brutus' speech, he explains that he would die for Rome, just as he believes Caesar had to. He appeals to the crowds emotions through his words of dedication. By saying these words, the crowd will be more likely to follow Brutus' cause.
  • Antony's Speech - Ethos
  • Caesar was my friend, faithful and just to me
  • In his speech, Antony highlighted the good that Caesar did by recalling some past events. These events showed that Caesar was not ambitious, but a fair, noble, and honorable man. Antony told the audience the facts that he knew about Caesar to sway them to his side.
  • Antony's Speech - Pathos
  • You all loved Caesar once, and with good cause. What reason then is holding you back from mourning him? Oh judgment, you've fled to brutish animals while men have lost their reason! Bear with me; my heart is in the coffin with Caesar and I must pause until it returns to me. (he weeps)
  • Brutus says a series of statements to illustrate how life under Caesar would be similar to one as a slave. He uses logic to say explain how no one would be so lowly to want to be a slave. He uses rhetorical questions to get his point across.
  • Caesar gains the trust of the people by saying that Caesar was a good friend of his. By saying this, Antony builds credibility with his audience. Because Antony was a good friend of Caesar, the crowd will be much more likely to listen to him.
  • Antony uses pathos by appealing to the emotions of the crowd. He does this by reminding the crowd that they loved Caesar too, and that he was a good man. He further appeals to the emotions to the crowd through emotions by pausing to weep.
