  • Impact
  • Life for colonists out on the frontier was less than envisioned by them. Surrounded by Natives and without money, they were feeling neglected. Things got even worse when the House of Burgesses took away their right to vote. The colonists were enraged. Meanwhile, Nathaniel Bacon was a landowner despised by the governor who wanted to over through the natives.
  • The angry settlers elected Nathaniel Bacon as the leader of their rebellion. They wanted to attack the natives and they did just that, killing tons of them, not caring to see whether they were friendly or not. They also burned Jamestown to the ground, causing the governor to flee. This was all after the House of Burgesses gave them some of their rights back, but Bacon wouldn't stop. He wanted to take over Jamestown. Unfortunately for him, he died of dysentery before his goal was ever accomplished and his rebellion fell apart after that.
  • Even though Bacon's rebellion was created to help people in lower classes, it did the opposite. It was the primary cause for the slave industry to grow so big. Because of Bacon's rebellion, people realized they couldn't have indentured servants and had to come up with another way to get working people. New laws were passed that said anyone from Africa of with African descendants would be enslaved.
