- Captain Walton has been expressing his loneliness by writing letters to his sister. "But I bitterly want the feeling of a friend,” stating that he feels alone. From afar, he saw a man in an unfit shape. His name was Victor Frankenstein. Victor becomes comfortable with Walton and tells him about his story.
- Victor Frankenstein grew up in Geneva with his parents, his brother William, his best friend Henry, and his cousin Elizabeth. Victor's parents expected them to get married.
- Victor enrolls at a university in Ingolstadt, where his professor advises him to do research and teaches him how to revive dead flesh. Victor ends up avoiding his family as he becomes deep in thought about his studies.
- What have I created!!?
- Victor creates a monster from body parts found in the cemetery. Victor says, “I had selected his features as beautiful!” Victor enjoys the feeling of success from creating the monster. He was not afraid of the dead corpse, but rather of what he had created.
- After Victor saw what he had created, he ran in fear, abandoning the monster. Which forced the monster to take care of himself.
- Why did my father leave me?
- Frankenstein (the monster) came across a small cottage where he made himself comfortable and took refuge. There, he found a family living in the cottage and started stalking them. “I felt sensations of a peculiar and overpowering nature; they were a mixture of pain and pleasure, such as I had never before experienced, either from hunger or cold, warmth or food, and I withdrew from the window, unable to bear these emotions.” Frankenstein builds up the courage to introduce himself to the family.
- Frankenstein's appearance terrified them, causing them to reject him out of fear. He ended up leaving with a feeling of betrayal and abandonment again.
- While Frankenstein was on a journey to Geneva, he saved a young girl from drowning in the river. When he saves her, a man suspects Frankenstein is attacking her and then shoots him. This act makes him angry for revenge.
- Did I kill her?
- When Frankenstein arrives in Geneva, he meets William, who is scared by Frankenstein’s appearance. When the monster approaches William, he shouts that his father, a Frankenstein, will punish the monster. The monster becomes enraged upon hearing the name Frankenstein and strangles William. Justine Moritz took the blame for William’s death.
