Leaders of Congress! The farmers in Massachusetts are angry and rebelling due to taxes and the foreclosing of farms!
August 29th, 1786
Oh no! This is terrible news.
Congressman
Daniel Shays is leading the farmers in Massachusetts in attacks on government buildings across the state. Should we send out our military enforcements to stop them?
Unfortunately, we don’t have a central military service due to the AOC. If we want to stop these farmers, we will have to leave it up to Massachusetts to stop them.
No Military!!!
But these farmers are dangerous! Are you sure there’s nothing we can do? Are you sure we have to leave it all up to the states?
I’m afraid there’s nothing we can do. We don’t have to money or power to fund a military, and with the AOC, the states have more power than we do. They will have to provide their own soldiers if they want to stop these farmers.
No Power!!!
With no military, no money, and no power, I don’t know if this type of government is working. I think we might need a new type of government to solve these problems.
Okay Sir, I’ll report back to you on the situation as soon as possible.
Starting on August 29th, 1786, farmers in the state of Massachusetts rebelled against the state government due to the foreclosing of farms caused by higher taxes. Because the government and Congress had limited to no power, no military, and no money due to the AOC, the government couldn’t do anything to stop the farmers. The government had to leave it up to the states to stop the rebelling farmers, and this was the final straw for the AOC, showing how weak this type of government was.
