- Stop that! What is wrong with you! I should have known YOU would do something like this. Give me that toy now and get out of here!
- Neville's explosive reaction
- If it means that much to you, take your stupid mouse, I destroyed it anyway! Who cares!
- Meanwhile, in Neville's room...
- I miss having my own toy. Milo has all the toys, what I wouldn't give to have just one again.
- One morning, Milo the cat sauntered into the room to notice Neville G. Pig had taken and was playing with his toy mouse. Milo walked over and loomed over Neville overshadowing him to show his power as the number one pet.
- Overhearing Neville's struggle...
- Gosh, maybe I shouldn't have attacked Neville like that. Perhaps, talking to him and understanding where this came from could help.
- Neville, feeling the power struggle with Milo and upset with how Milo had spoke to him, threw the toy back at him and proceeded to go back to his room knocking over whatever he could on his way out.
- Milo speaks to Neville with an open heart.
- I could see that you really liked the toy and talking to you like that was wrong of me. I'm sorry. If playing with the toy is important to you - I am sure we can work something out.
- Back in his room, Neville G. Pig, put his head down. He thought about his old toy mouse and how much comfort it had brought to him before it was all taken away when he lost his old home.
- Change the approach to change the behavior
- Outside the room, Milo heard Neville's cries. He saw how explosive Neville reacted when he threw the toy, was there something he was missing? He reflected on what Neville came with and realized he didn't have any toys of his own.
- Milo approaches Neville ready to listen and understand. He explains that he is sorry for how he spoke to Neville, but that he was wondering why did Neville take his toy. Seeming genuine, Neville's walls start to come down and decides to trust Milo.
- Neville and Milo started to repair their relationship. After awhile, Neville told Milo how he lost everything and missed having a toy of his own. Milo empathized and together they made a plan to give Neville toy time. Milo realized that instead of reacting to someone's behavior - he should seek to understand it first.
