Archbishop Thomas Becket returns to Canterbury Cathedral after 7 years... Chorus includes the women who fear his return owing to adversary between King Henry IV and Becket... The Chorus laments....

The three attempts by tempters go vain and finally Becket is tempted by a fourth one
the murder on Dec 29,1170
Thomas Becket delivers a speech on Christmas Day… He asserts that he was ready to do anything for the welfare of the people and hence become a Martyr… But the priests refused to let him die
At the Cathedral, four knights arrive with an “Urgent Business from King” and they kill him
I'm READY TO DIE
The Knights have varied opinion on the Murder… The story ends…“Religion Martyred! Monarchy regained! ”
