- peninsulares are people born in the old world. they can take any political office and are at the top of the social heirarchy
- the creoles could hold most political offices and were second on their social pyramid. the creoles led a revolution
- creoles were people who are born of african-european descent and were second on the social pyramid. they can take up most political offices.
- the mestizos led the mexican revolution with a few other social groups with simon bolivar as their leader
- the mestizos were people born of spanish and native ancestry and were third on their social heirarchy and were not able to take up political offices
- mulatto, now an offensive term was a name for those born of one african and one white parent. the mulattos were second last right above slaves on the social heriarchy
- lastly on the social pyramid are the slaves and natives. they could take no political offices. at first the people from the new world used the natives as slaves, but they eventually died out. after this they started using slaves from africa. the slaves eventually led a revolution that demonstrated their power but ultimatley failed, the leader of this revolution was known as toussaint louverture
