- Santiago: Working
- Old Man: What are they doing?
- Santiago: What is the world'sgreatest lie?
- Old Man: It’s this that at a certain point in our lives, we lose control of what’s happening to us, and our lives become controlled by fate. That’s the world’s greatest lie.
- Santiago: Where are you from and what to do you do?
- Old Man: I'm from Salem. The King of Salem.
- The old man standing beside Santiago and start to engage in conversation by asking what was happening in the surroundings. Meanwhile, Santiago tries to answer without much sociability and tries to remain respectful.
- Do you know where's the hidden treasure?
- I can't help you if you don't have enough sheep.
- This time to continue the conversation, the old man asks for a sip of wine Santiago, so Santiago did give the wine to the old man. The old man looks intently at the book and speaks his opinion, and Santiago was too stunned because he thought the old man can’t read and is known to the book.
- Here's my sheep. Where's the treasure?
- It's in Egypt, near the Pyramids.
- Santiago scan and judge the outfit of the old man and he finds it odd because it's unique. He travels a lot and the designs got him curious about the old man's identity.
- What are these?
- They are called Urim and Thummim. The black signifies 'yes' and the white is 'no'.
- The old man offers help in exchange for sheep, however, Santiago is pissed because he did not ask for help. But deep inside, he wanted to chase his dreams so he think it thoroughly.
- Give me one tenth of your sheep and I'll tell you how to find the hidden treasure.
- Since the old man asked to meet at noon, Santiago arrived at that time and bring 6 sheep with him to get the information about the location where the treasure was located.
- In order to find the treasure, you will have you to follow the omens. God has prepared a path for everyone to follow. You just have to read the omens that he left for you.
- Santiago couldn't speak any words because he is shocked at how the old man know what he is thinking, and what he wanted and needs to know. With that, he concluded that he is a king in Salem.
- When you are unable to read the omen, they will help you to do so. Always ask an objective question. But if you can, try to make your own decisions.
