- "Lest the wise world should look into your moan,And mock you with me after I am gone." (lines 13-14)
- The turn in lines 13 and 14 shifts the tone of the poem. Before the turn. the poem focuses on telling a loved one to forget about Shakespeare when he is gone. In these lines, Shakespeare warns the loved one that their love for Shakespeare may be used against them, and that they need to simply forget about him and move on. This change in tone helps the audience understand why Shakespeare wants his loved on to forget about him, when before the message was somewhat ambiguous.

- This line helps warn the audience that the world will be curious after the death of Shakespeare, and that the loved one should take precautions. It also characterizes the world as "wise", which alludes to the world knowing more than the loved one. It may serve to characterize the loved one as possibly young and foolish.
- "And mock you with me after I am gone." (Line 14)
- This line serves as a final warning to the loved one that the world will not take kindly to them mourning Shakespeare after his death. It also implies that Shakespeare will also be mocking them from the grave, likely for being foolish enough to not listen to his warning. The theme of this poem is that the world may not look kindly on all love, so one must be cautious.
