- Lady Macbeth has lost her sanity. Lady Macbeth is sleepwalking, and the deaths of Banquo and Lady Macduff taunt her. With her is a gentlewoman and a doctor.
- Did you hear that?
- The thane of Fife had a wife. Where is she now?—What, will these hands ne'er be clean?
- Outside of Macbeth's Castle awaits a group of Scottish lords. Macbeth is also preparing for battle. Macbeth is confident in the witch's prophecies that he will not be overthrown or killed. At Birnam Wood, the English forces camouflage themselves as they approach the castle by using tree branches.
- Men, draw out your swords!
- The queen, my lord, is dead.
- Seyton informs Macbeth of his wife's passing.
- She should have died hereafter.There would have been a time for such a word.Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow,Creeps in this petty pace from day to dayTo the last syllable of recorded time,And all our yesterdays have lighted foolsThe way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle!Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor playerThat struts and frets his hour upon the stageAnd then is heard no more. - Outside the castle, the battle begins. Macbeth has commands the English soldiers to draw their swords. Malcolm attacks those around him with brutal force. When Macbeth and Macduff are battling out, Macbeth discovers that Macduff is not born of a woman. Macduff kills Macbeth and declares Malcolm the King of Scotland.
