Theme

In the streets of Venice, Italy there was a carnival. At this carnival a man named Montresor went to see his drunk friend Fortunato. He told Fortunato he had a rare wine he wished to share with him.

Montresor kept the ''Amontillado" in his catacombs, which are under the city. When in the catacombs they shared one to two bottles of wine, which made Fortunato more intoxicated.

As Montresor and Fortunato reached the end of the catacombs Fortunato states that the Amontillado is inside that whole in the wall. While he tells Fortunato to look for the Amontillado inside the whole he outs chains on him. Fortunato being drunk does not realize what is happening to him.

Montresor began to bury Fortunato alive. He heard Fortunato cry, try and fight the chains off and try convincing him he should let him go. Soon he gave up all together and Fortunato soon gave up all together.

Montresor finished up putting the brick and felt that he got the revenge he desereved knowing that he won and knowing that no one was going to find Fortuanto because no one had been that far down there in the catacombs for more than half a century

I think that is the theme of the story because Fortunato being drunk and not being completely aware of what is going on Montresor was able to get him all the way to the back of the catacomb and bury him alive before he truly understood what was happening. So Fortuanto being drunk was Montresor strength to get his revenge

YES THIS IS HOW I SHALL GET MY REVENGE

I have been given this wine that is believed to be Amontillado?

One man's weakness is another man's success

The Amontillado? Where is it?

Let me have a taste at it

Keep looking it is there

Maybe we should head back your cough sounds bad.

*cough, cough, cough*

None since, let us go to the amontillado.
