  • monarchs- kings and queens highest rank A monarch may exercise the highest authority and power in the state, or others may wield that power on behalf of the monarch. Typically a monarch either personally inherits the lawful right to exercise the state's sovereign rights

  • the lords ran the local manors. they also were the knights and could be called into battle at any moment by their baron. the lords owned everything on their land including the peasants crops and village.
  • peasants/serfs
  • Knights-a solider who wore armor also knights were given land by a baron. In return for the land they had to provide military service when demanded by the king. They also had to protect the baron and his family as well as the manor from attack.
  • manors
  • Crafts in the Middle Ages has a different connotation than crafts today. Largely, Middle Ages crafts were not hobbies or artistic demonstrations, but trades that had been studied and mastered by craftsmen.   • Peasants sometimes known as serfs or villeins were given land by knights. In return they had to provide the knight with free labour food and service whenever it was demanded. Peasants had no rights. They were not allowed to leave the manor and had to ask for permission before they could marry.
  • the center of life in the middle ages was the manor. the manor was run by the local lord. he lived in a large house or castle where people would gather for celebrations or for protection if they were attacked.
