  • The Cask of Amontillado
  • By: Theo Devereaux
  • The story of the cask of amontillado is set in the medieval age. The main character's name is Montresor, and he has a friend named Fortunato and he makes fun of Montresor, but when he insulted Montresor, Fortunato put himself in a dangerous situation. (Edgar Allan Poe, quote: "but when he ventured upon insult, I vowed revenge" (said by Montresor))
  • Montresor's traits:Montresor's physical appearance is not mentioned but his phycological traits are: He is manipulative, and unemotional. The examples of this are: "My friend, no; I will not impose upon your good nature. I perceive you have an engagement. Luchesi- ... My fiend, no. ... but the severe cold which I perceive you are afflicted. The vaults are insufferably damp. They are incrusted with nitre. (Montresor is telling Fortunato not to come with him when really, he wants Fortunato to come with him. The other example is: I hastened to make and end of my labor. I forced the last stone into its position; I plastered it up." (Montresor just basically killed his friend without any emotion.
  • The inciting incident is when Fortunato insults Montresor because if Fortunato didn't insult Montresor, then Montresor wouldn't have sworn revenge and the rest of the story wouldn't have happened.
  • your family is stupid
  • "FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, MONTRESOR!"
  • The climax of the story is when Montresor blocks the entrance and dooms Fortunato to his death. The quote is: I hastened to make and end of my labor. I forced the last stone into its position; I plastered it up."
  • "Yes, for the love of god"
  • The resolution of the story is that Montresor goes back to the ball and lives on happily ever after. Fortunado is never found because the story ends with the line "For the half of a century no mortal has disturbed them. (them referring to the bricks Montresor trapped Fortunado behind). It is never specified what happens after the end of the story but using my intuition I can safely assume that is what happened.
