Po smrti své matky se dvanáctiletý Rob a jeho otec stěhují do Listeru na Floridě, kde Robův otec pracuje jako údržbář v motelu, kde žijí. Osamělý, smutný a terč dvou tyranů Rob sbalí své pocity do metaforického kufru a zamkne je. Robův život se začne měnit, když v lese za motelem najde velkého tygra zavřeného v kleci a setká se s novou dívkou Sistine Baileyovou. Když Robova emocionální skořápka začíná praskat, poznává hodnotu přátelství a vypořádání se se svými pocity spolu s výzvou učinit těžké rozhodnutí.
