- In Europe, there were rising tensions between the powers (Germany, Russia, etc.) due to militarism, nationalism, and various other factors. This translated to a rivalry for power as these countries entered an "arms race". They would mass produce weaponry to best their contestants which wasn't remedied by the growing nationalism. In 1907, the Triple Entente was formed which established an allied relationship between France, Britain, and Russia. Meanwhile, the Triple Alliance was formed which established an allied relationship between Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy. These alliances would eventually face off against each other.
- Rising Tensions
- With the tensions and unrest between the powers, all it took was a spark before a world-scale war erupted. That spark came in the form of the Archduke's assassination in Austria-Hungary.
- In the span of 23 days, the following countries declared their participation in what would become World War I: Serbia, Russia, Germany, Austria-Hungary, Montenegro, Japan and Britain.

- It's a total war out here!
- Get down in the trench if you don't want to die!
- Due to new tactics such as trench warfare and the introduction of new technologies, the old ways of war proved ineffective. This led to a stalemate since each side fought with emphasis on defense. After intercepting a transmission from Germany that threatened the US, the pre-existing urge to participate in the war evolved. With assistance from America, the Triple Entente were able to push past the stalemate and into a decisive victory against the Triple Alliance.
