- Hello, I am a patrician who is a part of a small percentage of wealthy families living in Rome. My social status was inherited, and I and many others hold government and military positions.
- Hello...I am a plebeian, a member of the lower class citizens.
- Although we make up most of the population of Rome, we aren't able to hold a any positions of power and don't receive enough representation for all the work we do!
- And so the plebeians walked out of Rome and refused to return to work until important concessions were handled accordingly.
- Please keep working!
- The strike worked and the patricians allowed the plebeians to elect their own officials and now had the ability to veto decisions made by the consuls.
- Fine...I'll give you more freedom and rights for you to continue working for us.
- One of the first legal actions the plebeians accomplished was The Law of the Twelve Tables. The Twelve Tables were a set of laws that were posted to the public for all to see. These laws protected citizens basic, innate rights regardless of their social class.
