Siddhartha Gautama was born during the 500s BCE in Nepal. He grew up as a wealthy Hindu prince in a palace and had all the luxuries that he desired. His father was a king and he wanted Siddhartha to be a king as well.
Now this will help me find the truth about life!
Siddhartha’s father shielded him from everything unpleasant to prevent him from becoming a holy man( Spiritual leader). A fortune teller predicted that Siddhartha would become either a holy man or a king. His father did not want him to see suffering...No poor, sick, or sad in fear that he would seek out the truth...
Mmh...Mmh...Mmh...
One night, Siddhartha left the palace. Siddhartha saw an old, bent, toothless man leaning on a stick. The second time he went out, he saw a skinny man shrunken by disease. And on his third ride, Siddhartha saw a dead man. So he decided to search for a sense of peace.
These dots mark some of the places buddhism has spread to.
Siddhartha started his search by joining a group of ascetic monks. They would deny themselves of everything in life. Even food and water.
Siddhartha reached enlightenment by focus, meditation and calming of the mind. He sat by a tree for 40 days not drinking or eating. When he woke from his meditation, He was enlightened.
The Buddha traveled around India spreading the knowledge of how to reach Nirvana. He gained many followers throughout his teachings. Those followers were the ones who spread buddhism across the world when Siddhartha died.
