- The battle of Hastings started on the 4th of January 1066 by Edward the confessor died of old age with a cold. Edward the confessor had no kids so there was no real heir to the throne. This was a huge concern for England as they did not know who would take Edward the confessors place on the throne
- The Three Contenders for the Throne
- I shall be king because I'm a warrior and I am experienced for this job.
- Edward the confessor would have had no clue of who was going to be king. Harold Godwinson said that he was told to take the throne so there could have been a chance that Edward thought Harold would take the throne.

- Harold Godwinson claimed that in King Edwards dying moments, he gave the throne to him. There was no proof to this so he wasn't awarded the throne right away. Harold Godwinson also couldn't speak English, wasn't a warrior and he didn't have an army but he was still a strong leader.
- Take my place as king
- Harald Hardrada was a strong contender in getting the throne of England as he has had a lot of experience in ruling a country. He was already the King of Norway. Harald Hardrada was a fierce warrior and he led and army in Norway. The only two problems was that he had no connection to king Edwards family and he couldn't speak English.
- Duke William of Normandy was a very strong contender as he was a successful Duke. He helped Harald run and take care of France. Duke William of Normandy was a distant cousin of King Edward. He was a very strong warrior and he ran an army. The only downfall was that he couldn't speak English.
- I am going to be king because I am the better warrior
- I am also Edwards distant cousin
