- Today we are going to talk about Federal Government vs States Rights
- Most bad government has grown out of too much government
- If men were angels no government would be necessary
- National:Declare war, regulate interstate commerce, admit new states, set standards for weights and measurements, establish post office, print money, enter into treaties with foreign governments
- Equal laws protecting equal rights, the best guarantee of loyalty and love of country
- States:Establish schools, regulate intrastate commerce, issue marriage and drivers licenses, ratify amendments to the constitution, establish local governments, assume powers not delegated to the National
- When people fear the government there is tyranny, when government fear the people there is liberty
- I like the dreams of the future better than the history of the past
- Shared powers: Levy taxes, mainatin law and order, build highways, borrow money, charter banks, establish courts
- Liberty may be endangered by the abuse of liberty, but also by the abuse of power
