- We are gonna buy land, and have our own farm. I get to tame the rabbits.
- Crooks starts gaining hope that he will get to join George and Lennie when they buy land. He will finally get treated equally and with respect, even if he had a different color of skin.
- I'll come. I'll come and work on the farm with you guys. you don't gotta even pay me. I'll just work there for free.
- "Well, you keep your place then, *******. I could get you strung up on a tree so easy it ain't even funny."
- Curley's wife comes into Crooks room and immediately made him lose all hope he had. When she threatened to frame and kill him, he came to the reality that he will never be treated the same.
- "You got no rights comin' in a colored mans room. You got no rights messing around in here at all. Now you jus' get out, an' get out quick."
- Come on Crooks!
- Leave! You do not understand how hard it is for a guy like me these days.
- Crooke losing hope. He realizes he will not be treated the same over the color of his skin.
