- Atoms are combined together to form elements such as hydrogen and helium. During the formation of the universe the 4 lightest elements were formed.
- The other elements were discovered in nature, were created by nuclear reactions and supernovae.
- These elements are grouped in a diagram called the periodic table and are sub grouped in smaller categories in the order of their atomic number.
- How were atoms created?
- Elements in the same group have similar chemical properties, as they have the same number of outer electrons and have the same valency (combining power of a element).
- Where are the other elements found?
- Supernovae are caused when a star’s core runs out of fuel to power it (hydrogen). When more stars die, and expands into a red giant, an explosion is triggered and this is known as a supernovae.

- The active star releases a lot of energy and neutrons which give birth to heavy elements known as gold and uranium
