- Meghan comes to the campfire with 3 5/12 chocolate bars. (She and Jamie had eaten some on their way.)
- How to Convert
- Little Jamie breaks apart all the bars into pieces. Now there are 41/12 chocolate bars. Thanks, Jamie.
- Addition
- The amount of chocolate has remained the same. Making s'mores may require some more work, but we haven't lost any chocolate.
- Standard Algorithm

- Besides counting up the pieces, we can use a few shortcuts to find an equivalent fraction of a mixed number.
- I will show you how to re-name-inate.
- 12/12 + 12/12 + 12/12 + 5/12 = 41/12

- Rename the whole number as a fraction(s) that has the same denominator as your partial fraction. Add the fraction piece to the wholes.

- Multiply the whole number by the denominator. Add the old numerator to get a new numerator. Place over denominator.
