- Montressor
- Fortunato
- Are you sure you are well enough, I see you are not too good.
- We can go down to your catacombs and taste that fine wine.
- Montressor and Fortunato are friends that like to tell jokes and tease eachother, until one day Fortunato went too far. He made fun of Montressors family name, which caused him to seek revenge.
- Montressor makes sure that he thinks through his whole plan. He knows if he wants to get good revenge he has to use Fortunatos weakness—wine. When they meet up at a carnival one night Montressor invites him over to taste some expensive wine.
- As they go down the stairs Montressor continues with his plan of revenge as Fortunato does not suspect a thing.
- As they reach the end of their walk in the catacomb coming up on the amontillado, he is tricked into a small hole in the wall thinking the amontillado is in there.
- When he walks in he is told to feel the water on the wall. Just then when he puts his hand on the wall Montressor locks his hands and feet in the chains on the wall. Fortunato realizes he has been tricked and there is no amontillado. Montressor begins to build a wall around him.
- Fortunato lets out a scream hoping someone will hear him but when Montressor starts copying him he knows there is no hope. when the wall is totally done he went back to the carnival. He lets the readers know that no one has bothered him for years.
