  • Good afternoon. Thank you for coming for the meeting. Let's go to our classroom to have some tea and talk about Jay.
  • Hi. I really appreciate your communication in letting me know how Jay is doing in class.
  • I want to start by saying that Jay is a polite student who tries hard in class. He is new to our school, but I can see that he already made some new friends.
  • Thank you for your kind remark. We always try to teach him to treat other people nicely.
  • However, from the most recent test results, I noticed that Jay is performing below grade level. His MAP reading score was 175, and his F&P level is D, which mean that he's reading below grade 2 level. In his Math test, he only answered 30% of the questions correctly.
  • I see that this is pretty serious. What do you think is causing his low test scores?
  • I think that the transition from a public school to an international school is always difficult since every subject is taught in English here. Also, Jay's English hasn't been really good yet, so he sometimes became unfocused in class and missed the important information.
  • Oh I see. What can we do to help him improve his performance?
  • At home, can you encourage him to read frequently to improve his reading? It'll also help Jay a lot if he has a bilingual tutor who can help him review what we have learned in class.
  • I will try my best to provide him with small group lessons to reteach the difficult concepts. There are also a lot of helpful students in our class who can help him.
  • Those are all great ideas. I will try my best to support him at home and find a tutor for him.
