- The narrator is reading by the fire when a tapping at the door wakes him from his sleep.

- The narrator opens the hallway door and sees nothing.

- The narrator opens the window and the Raven flies through and sits on the bust of placid above his chamber door.
- Resolution
- The narrator starts to ask the Raven questions and get angrier and angrier every time it answers with nevermore.
- "Other friends have flown before;On the morrow he will leave me, as my hopes have flown before."
- The narrator tells the Raven to go back to the night's plutonian shore and the bird says nevermore.
- "Get thee back into the tempest and the Night's Plutonian shore!
- The narrator learns to just accept the fact that the bird is not going to go away.
