- Jane, have you ever thought about attending school? Have you ever desired to meet your real family?
- Yes, I often dream of going to school to get away from this home. I do not wish to see my family because they're poor.
- She's been very ill since the Red-Room. It seems there is nothing we can do to help her, Mr. Lloyd.
- Thank you Mr. Brocklehurst. We do not want her back for holidays. She is to be punished for her disrespect. This school will correct her.

- Through the sorrow of Lowood, Jane befriends a girl named Helen, who helps her get through each grueling day.
- Lowood school is a dark, desolate and dreary place. Jane is pushed around by older girls and the teachers are equally as mean. Each child is mistreated and depressed.
- Trust me, Jane, you will learn. When they punish and correct you, it is deserved. It makes you a better person in the end.
- The teachers here are so cruel! The way they punish you, Helen, how do you just stand and endure it? If that were me, I wouldn't take it!
