- Absolutely! He’s struggling a bit with regrouping when adding and subtracting two- and three-digit numbers. I can recommend some good websites to help with this. Also, if you read together every night, that will go a long way toward improving his literacy skills. I’ve got some worksheets and web resources I’ll give you for that as well.
- Is there anything I can do at home to help him academically?
- It’s important to have a follow-up plan so we can keep on top of Tom’s progress.
- I totally agree! What do you usually do in a case like this?
- First, I’ll continue to communicate with you daily in Class Dojo. As you know, the colors show how he did in class that day. That will give you a quick glimpse of how things are going day to day. If there are any big problems during the week, I’ll send a detailed email on the weekend. I’m also going to give Tom a practice exam each week to see how he’s progressing. I’ll send you the results each week by email. And why don’t we schedule another conference for one month from today to check in and see how things are going both at home and in school?
- At this point, I don’t think that’s necessary. However, it’s always an option down the road if things don’t improve or if they get worse. But knowing Tom, I’m confident that the two of us can help him.
- That sounds perfect. Do you think we should involve a counselor?
- I think so, too. Thanks so much for taking the time to meet with me and fill me in, Mr. Adams. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it. Tom’s lucky to have a teacher like you.
