- Hey! I have Science homework and need to do an experiment, want to help?
- Ya I would love to help. Let's go home.
- Ya, but do you know what they do?
- Before we start do you know the three variables?
- So the controlled variable is what you hold constant throughout an experiment
- Ya I think... Isn't there an Independent, dependent and controlled variable?
- An independent variable is the cause (what you are changing), the dependent variable is the effect (what changes)
- Exactly, good job! Now it's time to start.
- You need these variables in experiments to see if anything has changed in the experiment. Are you with me so far?
- Ya, so we are trying to determine whether the colour of the ball effects the height of the ball on it's first bounce?
- 3...2...1...go!
- Since we're done my teacher wants us to answer some questions about the experiment. Come...
- Wow! So know we have our answer, the colour of the ball does not effect the ball on its first bounce.
- Question one: Give an example for the independent variable and how it has changed at least 3 times.
- Yes. Next question: How is the dependent variable measured?
- Because our independent variable is the colour of the ball, say the colours were orange, red and green, would the height be the same?
