Did you hear about what is going on with the wetlands around the U.S.?
Yeah, my science teacher was talking about it. Man, we have to protect it, but I don't understand why. Can you show me?
See, one of the things people have done is to cause so much pollution.
Since 1/3 of endangered animals only live in Wetlands, they may become extinct. Then it messes with the food chain.
Oh I could see how that would be bad. What happens to the animals?
Wetlands help prevent flooding, especially in homes. The plants and soil absorb and store water to reduce flooding and water runoff into places that would damage homes,.
Well I assume you like your house. If we don't protect the wetlands, it could be in jeopardy.
Why are we at my house now?
How?
Wow. That's awful! Anything else I should know as we walk through these wetlands?
Yeah. I know how much you like hiking here. So do others. In fact, 160 million Americans spending $29.2 billion to observe, photograph, and feed wildlife in wetlands.
