- Today we are talking about how to solve a problem with multipleoperations.
- (4 + 6)^2/(2 ∗ 5) − 10 + 3 ∗ 5 = x
- Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, SubtractionWe will be using PEMDAS:
- Jason can you tell me what the first step is?
- 10^2/(10) − 10 + 3 ∗ 5 = x
- We first need to do Parenthesis
- Awesome!Thea can you tell us what we would need to do then?
- The Parenthesis would be the (4+6) and (2*5) because you have to treat the division symbol like a parenthesis
- 100/(10)− 10 + 3 ∗ 5 = x
- Great job Thea.Murphey what is the next step?
- We next need to do the exponents of (10)^2
- Jason what is the next step?
- We now need to do the Multiplication which is 3+5
- 100/(10) − 10 + 15 = x
- 10 − 10 + 15 = x
- And Murphey what does the D stand for in PEMDAS
- The D stands for Division. So that means we have to do 100/(10)
- 15 = x
- Thea what are the last two steps we have to do?
- We now do addition and subtraction which is the10-10+15. So x=15 since10-10 = 0 and we are only left with +15.
