On December 19, 1777, the continental army came to Valley Forge because they wanted to be close to the British, to protect Pennsylvania, and to have plenty of time to warn people if the British attacked them.

Many people died because of the bad weather and of the diseases.
On June 19, 1778, the continental army left Valley Forge but 2,500 soldiers died out of 11,000.
